Roomie Recommendation

First Benefit product on the blog! This recommendation comes from another housemate who’s been looking for a new foundation, previously using the Laura Mercier one that everyone and their mother uses.  Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation feels lightweight but can actually provide full coverage.

This recommendation comes from a fellow housemate who, like me, wears winged eyeliner everyday.  You know when someone has a favorite felt tip liner that it must be good because winged eyeliner can be the death of me sometimes.  Tarte So Fine takes first place, even over Kan Von D’s Tattoo liner and Dolly Wink.

While the tip is fine, a thicker wing can also easily be made by turning the angle of the tip. This sort of triangular tip makes it easy to control your winged liner.  You know those days when you have to just keep making your wing bigger and longer because you keep messing it up?  This liner works to keep your eyes from flying away.

Lid Lingerie

NYX has been releasing a ton of new products and with it’s first store opening in Westfield Valley Fair Mall, I’ve had a hard time resisting from trying everything out.  Their “lingerie” line of products has been the most popular among the girls living in my house. While the “lingerie” line has both eye and lip products, one of my housemates has been using the lid lingerie for her lips so you can say NYX is pretty…versatile?

While I didn’t have much luck with the lip lingerie product (it was patchy and I needed like 10 coats for opaque color), I use the NYX eyelid lingerie everyday.  The wand-like application is easy to just swipe on the eyes and go.  The sparkle and glitter is great for building up to a glamorous eye or to add a little “something” to an everyday eye.

Liquid Lipstick Lust

As you can probably tell, I don’t really branch out when it comes to lip products.  I’m addicted to this sort of half nude/half pink, Instagram-baddie shade of liquid lipstick. While this color obsession clearly isn’t healthy, it has allowed me to pick out the formulas that work the best for me.

The liquid lipsticks above are listed in order as follows:  Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow, NYX Lingerie in Teddy (LIPLI 10), Tarteist Lip Paint in tbt, NYX Liquid Suede in Soft-Spoken (LSCL 04), Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in Double Tap, Kylie Matte Liquid Lipstick in Dolce K, and Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude Vinyl.

The lip product that probably gets the most use is NYX Liquid Suede in Soft-Spoken.  This one gets the most love mainly because it’s the most comfortable on my lips.  The creamy texture doesn’t dry out my lips like some of the other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried and the color stays on for an extended period of time (especially because the color doesn’t flake off with my lips).  A close-runner up is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow.  The formula is extremely long-lasting and for some reason, this shade looks different but fantastic on a number of my friends.  The small brush also allows for a lot of control so you don’t even need a lip liner with this product.

As for some of the other products, I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed with the NYX Lingerie in Teddy.  NYX usually comes through with quality that greatly surpasses it’s affordability.  But with this one, I felt like it was patchy and needed lots of layers in order to get a solid color on my lips.  I’ve had other friends who have tried this product in different shades and their reactions were much more positive so it could just be this particular shade.  The Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss is definitely the stickiest out of the bunch, which could be because it’s a gloss, but I don’t like feeling like my hair is going to stick to my lips all day so this one was also kind of a disappointment for me.

Let me know if any of you have tried these brands or if you have other recommendations!

Windows to the Soul

Eyebrows truly are the windows to the soul.  They can make or break or frame you.  Most people didn’t even care till “brows on fleek” became a thing like four years ago.  But trust me when I say that brows are definitely the most important part of putting your best face forward.  These days, I don’t even know who I am without brows.  The shape is satisfactory and there aren’t many sparse areas in my brows.  But among other issues, one of my main hold-ups with my brows is that the hairs are too fine and light, making it look like I have no eyebrows at all.

Enter Etude House’s Tint My Brows.  This gel claims to tint your brow hairs, lasting longer than typical eyebrow products.  While it’s recommended to leave the product on for 2 hours minimum or an entire night, I can’t even commit to a flavor of ice cream so I left the gel on for 15 minutes max.  The idea of an eyebrow mask scares me to death, especially when I have few enough eyebrows hairs to spare as it is.

Even though I didn’t follow the product instructions, fifteen minutes alone proved how potent this product was.  Although the initial gel went on like a scary, black glue and I looked like a serial killer doll for fifteen minutes, the end product was natural, filled in brows.  While the color was a little light for my hair color, the product was a nice shade of brown, without appearing too harsh.  I will admit that leaving the product on for only 15 minutes is not the smart way to go as it’s much easier to let the product fully dry/set before attempting to peel off.

As a girl who dreads the water because of lack of brows, this product seems like it’s going to be gamechanging.  I was even more impressed upon observing a little spot of gel that somehow made it’s way onto my left thigh and ended up as a brown stain that lasted for a full 24 hours.  On first impression, this product is one that was worth the try as well as a little more experimentation.

Modern Renaissance

The beauty world basically hasn’t shup up about Anastasia Beverly Hill’s new palette, Modern Renaissance, since it debuted recently. As this palette was sold out almost everytime I searched for it at Sephora, I was excited to get my hands on it this past week.

Featuring 14 shades, in neutral and berry shades, this palette is perfect for both everyday as well as more glamorous rose gold looks. While most of the shades are in the warmer tones, I’ve found that some of the brown shades, such as Cyprus Umber, can also create more cool toned looks. When mixed with Red Ochre, Cyprus Umber can actually create a darker, sultrier shade. The orange shades, such as Burnt Orange and Raw Sienna, also work great as blending shades, especially if it is the first shade put into the crease of the eye. All of the shadows are soft and buttery, so much so that they can easily blend out. The matte shadows don’t appear to be cakey and the metallic shadows don’t have too much fallout, while also working brilliantly with a little spritz of water.

After using the palette everyday this week, I think Modern Renaissance might enter the running for one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes. At $42 for 14 shades, this palette is worth the money as majority of the shadows work great for everyday makeup and can be darkened for more dramatic looks.
