First Benefit product on the blog! This recommendation comes from another housemate who’s been looking for a new foundation, previously using the Laura Mercier one that everyone and their mother uses. Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation feels lightweight but can actually provide full coverage.
Out of all the liquid lipsticks, I have to say my Kat Von D ones get the most use. The above shades are Bow N Arrow and Lolita II, which are pretty neutral shades. The small application tip allows for easy, clean application so most times I don’t even need to use lip liner. The formula lasts extremely long and isn’t too overdrying. When it comes to liquid lipsticks, it’s easy to find ones that last forever but emphasize the cracks in my lips. Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks don’t do that and feel like nothing on my lips. 10/10 would recommend!
This recommendation comes from a fellow housemate who, like me, wears winged eyeliner everyday. You know when someone has a favorite felt tip liner that it must be good because winged eyeliner can be the death of me sometimes. Tarte So Fine takes first place, even over Kan Von D’s Tattoo liner and Dolly Wink.
While the tip is fine, a thicker wing can also easily be made by turning the angle of the tip. This sort of triangular tip makes it easy to control your winged liner. You know those days when you have to just keep making your wing bigger and longer because you keep messing it up? This liner works to keep your eyes from flying away.
NYX has been releasing a ton of new products and with it’s first store opening in Westfield Valley Fair Mall, I’ve had a hard time resisting from trying everything out. Their “lingerie” line of products has been the most popular among the girls living in my house. While the “lingerie” line has both eye and lip products, one of my housemates has been using the lid lingerie for her lips so you can say NYX is pretty…versatile?
While I didn’t have much luck with the lip lingerie product (it was patchy and I needed like 10 coats for opaque color), I use the NYX eyelid lingerie everyday. The wand-like application is easy to just swipe on the eyes and go. The sparkle and glitter is great for building up to a glamorous eye or to add a little “something” to an everyday eye.
While we’re on the subject of facial cleansers, this Tatcha Polished deep rice enzyme powder is just as enigmatic as it seems. It comes in powder form but turns into a liquid like substance when combined with water on your face. Although it doesn’t foam up as much regular facial cleansers usually do, the powder texture retains small grains that act as exfoliant. The exfoliation is gentle enough for everyday use but I’ve been sticking to using it about once a week. Definitely worth a try if you’re into unique products.
This week’s recommendation comes from a roommate who has recently been struggling with her skin. Although she has had oily skin for most of her adult life, this past winter’s weather has caused her skin to transition between combination to dry. As most of her face products were tailored to oily skin, my roommate’s skin began to suffer until she began using La Roche Posay’s Hydrating Gentle Cleanser for normal to dry skin.
At around $14.99 for 14 oz. at your nearest Target or Walgreens, this face wash is affordably priced and easily accessible. Although it is for normal to dry skin, it could also be useful for those with all skin types during the harsher, winter months. The formula is a gel cream and doesn’t leave skin feeling tight after you leave the shower, which is a common hangup with many face cleansers.
As you can probably tell, I don’t really branch out when it comes to lip products. I’m addicted to this sort of half nude/half pink, Instagram-baddie shade of liquid lipstick. While this color obsession clearly isn’t healthy, it has allowed me to pick out the formulas that work the best for me.
The liquid lipsticks above are listed in order as follows: Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow, NYX Lingerie in Teddy (LIPLI 10), Tarteist Lip Paint in tbt, NYX Liquid Suede in Soft-Spoken (LSCL 04), Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in Double Tap, Kylie Matte Liquid Lipstick in Dolce K, and Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude Vinyl.
The lip product that probably gets the most use is NYX Liquid Suede in Soft-Spoken. This one gets the most love mainly because it’s the most comfortable on my lips. The creamy texture doesn’t dry out my lips like some of the other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried and the color stays on for an extended period of time (especially because the color doesn’t flake off with my lips). A close-runner up is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow. The formula is extremely long-lasting and for some reason, this shade looks different but fantastic on a number of my friends. The small brush also allows for a lot of control so you don’t even need a lip liner with this product.
As for some of the other products, I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed with the NYX Lingerie in Teddy. NYX usually comes through with quality that greatly surpasses it’s affordability. But with this one, I felt like it was patchy and needed lots of layers in order to get a solid color on my lips. I’ve had other friends who have tried this product in different shades and their reactions were much more positive so it could just be this particular shade. The Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss is definitely the stickiest out of the bunch, which could be because it’s a gloss, but I don’t like feeling like my hair is going to stick to my lips all day so this one was also kind of a disappointment for me.
